To Belief in Allah:
To believe that there is only one God worthy of
worship, with no partner, nor son or any family member. This is known as
Tawheed. To fully believe in the way it is described in the Quran, and
Sunnah. Allah clearly explains Tawheed in the Holy Qur’an as:
قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ *اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ *لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ *وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ
“Say: He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to him any equivalent.❞ (Quran, 112:1-4)
Belief in His Angels:
The angels are messengers of Allah and are created from light. They were created before humans, for the purpose of worshipping and obeying Allah and obeying his commands. The Angels are the honorable slaves of Allah the Almighty Who created them from light. They neither eat, nor drink, nor sleep. They glorify Allah the Almighty night and day and do not slacken. They do not disobey the orders of Allah the Almighty, and they carry out what they are commanded to do, as they keep a record of our deeds. Some of the other duties of angles include: Blowing of the trumpet on judgment day, taking people’s souls (i.e. angel of death) and to be the keepers of heaven and hell.
“Indeed, whoever denies Allah, His angels, His Books, His messengers, and the Last Day has clearly gone far astray.” (Quran 4:136)
Belief in His Books:
Belief in the Divine Books is to have a firm belief that Allah, the Almighty has sent down books to His Prophets and Messengers.
In fact, the Noble Quran has abrogated all of Divine books send before to Prophets and Messengers. Allah, The Almighty, says (what means):
“And We Have Revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it.” (Quran 5:48)
1. The Scribe (Suhof) to Ibrahim. (peace be upon him).
2. The Psalms (Zaboor) sent with the Prophet Dawud (David), (peace be upon him).
3. The Torah (Torah) sent with the Prophet Musa (Moses), (peace be upon him).
4. The Gospel (Injeel) sent with Prophet Isa (Jesus), (peace be upon him).
5. The Quran sent with Prophet Muhammad, (peace be upon him)
Shaykh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah may Allah have mercy upon him said, “If anyone believes in all the books and denies only one of them, he will become a non-Muslim.”
Among all of these books sent by Allah ONLY QURAN was preserved, the reason behind not preserving the rest of the books is that Allah, the Almighty, Did not pledge that he will preserve them by himself for it is not an everlasting message as it was only message for a specific nation but not universal, Instead, He has entrusted preserving them to the humans who distorted and altered them. Allah, the Almighty, says (what means):
“Indeed, We Sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light. The prophets who submitted [to Allah] judged by it for the Jews, as did the rabbis and scholars by that with which they were entrusted of the Scripture of Allah, and they were witnesses thereto.” (Quran 5:44)
This is unlike the Noble Quran that Allah, The Almighty, Has Pledged to Preserve because it is the everlasting and universal Message of Allah The Almighty to human beings. Allah,The Almighty, says (what means):
“Indeed, it is We Who Sent down the Quran and indeed, We Will Be its guardian.” (Quran 15:9)
Belief in His Messengers:
This means have a firm belief that Allah ﷻ sent a messengers to every nation and community, calling its members to worship Allah alone without any partners, that all Allah’s messengers were truthful, virtuous, trustworthy and rightly-guided servants who strove hard to guide their people to the right path and conveyed Allah’s message to them in complete, without concealing, omitting or adding anything to it.
The Qur’an says:
“We surely sent a messenger to every community, saying, “Worship Allah and avoid false gods.” But some of them were guided by Allah, while others were destined to stray. So travel throughout the land and see the fate of the deniers” (Quran 16:35)
In the Quran there are 25 prophets were mentioned by name and they are:
1. Adam
2, Idris (Enoch)
3. Nuh (Noah)
4. Hud (Heber)
5. Salih (Methusaleh)
6. Lut (Lot)
7. Ibrahim (Abraham)
8. Ismail (Ishmael)
9. Ishaq (Isaac)
10. Yaqub (Jacob)
11. Yusuf (Joseph)
12. Shu’aib (Jethro)
13. Ayyub (Job)
14. Dhulkifl (Ezekiel)
15. Musa (Moses)
16. Harun (Aaron)
17. Dawud (David)
18. Sulayman (Solomon)
19. Ilias (Elias)
20. Alyasa (Elisha)
21. Yunus (Jonah)
22. Zakariya (Zachariah)
23. Yahya (John the Baptist)
24. Isa (Jesus)
25. Muhammad
Peace Be Upon Them All
Belief in the Last Day:
Muslims must believe in the existence of an afterlife , Al-Bukhari may Allaah have mercy upon him reported that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said:
“Faith is to believe in Allah, His Angels, His Messengers, and the Meeting with Him, and to believe in the Resurrection.”
“We will set up the scales of justice on the Day of Judgment, so no soul will be wronged in the least. And ˹even˺ if a deed is the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as a ˹vigilant˺ Reckoner” (Quran 21:47)
Belief in the Divine Preordainment and Divine Decree (Qadhaa’ and Qadr):
The belief of Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jama’ah is that a person has freedom of will , and hence he will be rewarded or punished. But his will is subject to the will of Allah, and nothing can take place in the universe that is not willed by Allah. Everything that happens, is due to the will and decree of Allah. Nevertheless, Muslims also understand that they are given free will and have the ability to distinguish between good and evil. And say:
“The truth is from your Lord. Then whosoever wills, let him believe; and whosoever wills, let him disbelieve” (Quran 18:29)
